On this Veterans Day I would like to honor Herod Wilson who was my great grandfather. He fought in the Civil War between 1862 and 1865. He was stationed at the Jefferson barracks in St Louis Mo and was in the 10th Calvary.
After the War he received a pension and later his widow also received a sum of money for his service. He fought for the Union.
Later on in his life he became a religious man and wrote a six page letter reflecting on his life. I have that letter and he mentioned the war and how it had changed him.
As I was thinking of writing this article tonight I thought of all of the veterans in my family. My dad was in the Army, my two brothers were in the Air Force, and my husband was in the Army. My brother in laws all served in the services too.
There are many to thank on this Veterans Day and I want to thank each and every person who has served in the military. If it were not for you there probably would not be a United States.
